The Philippine National Police confirmed 182 inmates escaped from Leyte Provincial Jail in Palo, Leyte around 4:15 in the morning.
Meanwhile, authorities managed to recapture 150 of the said inmates while 32 are still missing.
Prisoners escaped from jail due to lack of food, poor living condition and slow process of their cases.
However, the PNP confirmed that it wasn’t a jailbreak. The jail cells were already damaged by Typhoon Yolanda so it was easier for the inmates to escape.
Palo, Leyte was one of the provinces hit by the typhoon.
