Two officials of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Central Mindanao were relieved after the escape of 158 inmates in North Cotabato District Jail last January 4, 2017.

Cotabato Acting Gov. Shirlyn Masacarte-Villanueva, said among the relieved officials are Sr/Supt. Alberto Balauag, Regional Director BJMP in Central Mindanao and North Cotabato District Jail Warden Supt. Peter Bonggat.

Villanueva explained that the two officials were relieved from their positions while investigation is on-going regarding the escape of the said inmates amid the assault launched by the Moro fighters.

Meanwhile, Sr./Supt. Joel Superficial replaced Balauag while Bonggat was replaced by Chief Insp. Jesus Singson.

According to BJMP, as of now 49 fugitives are already back in the detention cell while manhunt operations is ongoing for the remaining 100 inmates.
