A 54-year-old bicycle-riding man died after he was rammed and run over by a speeding 14-wheeler trailer truck on Tuesday night in Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City.
Victim Neptali Gregada, a construction worker of D.M. Consunji, Inc. (DMCI), died on the spot when the huge vehicle (UVC 388) dragged him at about 7 p.m.
Police Officer 1 Pio Calvo of Parañaque City traffic bureau said Gregada had stopped at a red traffic light on Roxas Boulevard corner MIA Road, but truck driver Glenson Geras allegedly tried to beat the stop sign.
The freak accident caused heavy traffic on the northbound lane of Roxas Boulevard for about an hour.
Geras has been arrested and facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting to homicide.
The accident happened on the heels of the road-sharing demonstration of Bayanihan sa Daan Movement (BDM) on Roxas Boulevard to promote bike-friendly roads. (MJD)
