A retired teacher was killed while a pedicab driver remains in critical condition when the sidecar they were riding on collided with a taxi Thursday morning in Pasay City.
Report reaching the Pasay City Station Investigation Division Management Branch (SIDMB) disclosed that Eliseo Rea Carmen, 75, died on the spot due to severe head and body injuries.
Pedicab driver, Franklyn Disoy Faborado, 37, is still under observation at Pasay City General Hospital over multiple body injuries.
Senior Inspector Wilfredo Sangel, chief of Pasay City traffic bureau, said that around 5:30 a.m., taxi driver Edgar Viernes, 50, was traversing the southbound lane of EDSA corner P. Calle when the incident happened.
Police said the Toyota Vios taxi (UWV-300) hit the pedicab, which reportedly made a sharp turn on the U-turn section of P. Calle.
Due to the strong impact of the collision, the sidecar turned turtle and Carmen was thrown out of the vehicle.
Sangel added that Viernes tried to escape but the latter was immediately accosted by on-duty police.
The suspect is now under the police custody and will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to homicide and physical injury. (MJD)
