A Human Rights group is appealing to Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte to forget any ambition of running for the Presidency in the 2016 national elections.
During a forum in Quezon City, Nilda Sevilla, secretary-general of Families of Victims of Involuntary Disappearances (FIND) group, directly said that Duterte is a notable human rights violator.
Sevilla added that Duterte himself admitted to be connected in the so-called “Davao Death Squad.”
Sevilla explained that regardless of how bad an individual is, they have the right to go through due process.
The group warns those who expressed their support if Duterte considers running for Presidency to reconsider their decision.
The group added it is true that a country needs a leader with discipline, with a iron hand and stands with principle. But the country also needs someone who knows how to respect human rights.
