Former Makati City Vice Mayor Ernesto Mercado claim that he was also used by Vice President Jejomar Binay as dummy, as shown in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN), a news report said.
Mercado’s 2009 SALN revealed that he owned a parcel of land in Rosario, Batangas, where Binay is accused of owning a 350-hectare property.
The SALN revealed that Mercado acquired the property in 2005 for P3 million, which the former vice mayor confirmed.
Mercado said that Binay asked him to go to a bank in Batangas to sign a deed of sale. He didn’t release any cash.
Until now, the parcel of land was still under Mercado’s name, thus the property not still sold to businessman Antonio Tiu, the alleged dummy of Binay in acquiring the 350-hectare land.
But Binay’s camp denied the accusation of Mercado.
The Senate blue ribbon subcommittee will continue with its inquiry on the alleged overpricing of the Makati car park building, which expanded to the alleged wealth of Binay.
