Regi Espiritu never settles for mediocrity. As one of the station’s managing editors, he is keen in analyzing and anticipating news. He is word and detail savvy, and ingenious in baring and trailing the key and relevant angles of a story. Regi may appear to be a funny, laid-back man who seems to get away with everything through his random quips and jokes. But this is just his way to ease the pressure and tension in the newsroom. Yet, while he is inviting everyone to a party of laughs with his clever punch lines and sometimes shaggy-dog stories, he is quietly outdoing all the expectations that come with his demanding job.
Regi earned a degree in Mass Communications in Lyceum of the Philippines University. He also took up 22 units of Masters in Public Management in University of the Philippines – Open University. Before DZRH became home to his talent and skills, Regi was already tested and honed as a journalist when he ventured into numerous media outfits. He has been in the media since 1989. He started as a researcher at ABS-CBN’s “Magandang Gabi Bayan”. He was also a reporter for tabloid Lider and daily Today, and a newswriter for RMN-DZXL. He then joined DZRH in 1999.
As the managing editor of the newsroom, Regi produces the major newscasts of the day, including the MBC Network News from 11am-12noon, daily. Along with this duty, he also writes the headlines and top stories.
