The Philippines is not a garbage dump.
Bureau of Customs chief John Philip Sevilla stressed this to the world while at the same time filing a case of smuggling against an importer and two brokers of fifty container vans full of garbage from Canada.
Sevilla said the Philippines should not be bullied by other countries who want to smuggling various wastes to the country.
The BOC filed a case against Adelfa Eduardo, owner of chronic plastics, and brokers Leonora Flores and Sherjun Saydon for violating the customs and tariff codes of the Philippines, Rebuplic Act 6969 and Revised Penal Code before the Department of Justice on Thursday.
The BOC is coordinating with the Canadian embassy regarding the ban on importation and exportation of garbage.
