Honed by the tests of time and exposure to various beats, Sonny Casulla emerged to be a stanch media practitioner of DZRH. His three-decade adventures and immersions when he was assigned to different parts of the country pushed him beyond his limits and made him mature in the field he has chosen.
Being an artist by heart, Sonny studied Bachelor of Fine Arts in the University of Sto. Tomas. However, life instead sent him to media work when he was offered to become a DJ in an FM Station. He eventually became a Reporter of DWIZ and other radio stations that soon led him to DZRH.
Sonny’s experiences in the media are priceless. They were tales worth passing to the next generations of his family. They were stories of courage and passion. There was this instance when his patrol car was washed out while covering the flashflood in Ginsaugon, Eastern Samar. In another assignment, their helicopter crashed in a rescue operation of flood victims in Nueva Ecija and the incident nearly caused his death. Despite the risks and unpredictability of his job as a reporter, Sonny did not leave the industry. He instead capitalized on these experiences to grow and excel further as a journalist.
Sonny was also the one who first broke sensational and popular news stories including the peace talks in Mindanao, “Kuratong Baleleng,”“Scorpion Gang Bank Robberies” and “Vizconde Massacre.” He was assigned to Malacañang beat for three administrations: Fidel Ramos, Corazon Aquino and Joseph Estrada. He was also given the opportunity to travel and cover presidential visits to 25 countries.
Sonny currently co-anchors Mae Binauhan in Operation Tulong Night Edition on weekdays, 9 to 11 in the evening. On Sundays, he solely anchors the same program, from 9 to 12 midnight.
